Mar 29, 2014. #7. I believe that 1.5" hot rolled square tubing will fit in 2" square tube with 3/16 walls. It won't fit in 1/4" wall. There might be some slop left to right and up and down with the 3/16" wall. You could have your 1.5 " steel tool arm milled to the appropriate dimensions but that is adding complexity.
I also have a quite clear plan in my mind but I'm a rookie as well and I would like to be sure the sizes of my idea are ok. If I'll get the original KMG dimensions I'll compare them to mine and change something if needed. In any event I will not change all my plan, buy all top quality material and so on. Unfortunately I'm not so rich!

The KMG construction relies on butt joints, which means you're going to run into some trouble here, and when the cost of waterjet cutting is considered, I think the idea can be thrown out all together. The precision you'll find on regular cold-drawn mild steel bar will far exceed anything a waterjet can do.

This 2" x 72" grinder features quick change out tool bars similar to the KMG and quick on/off tool table rest that can be used on with any of the attachments. This is not a KMG clone. I think the KMG is an awesome grinder and worth every penny. I've had one for years and love it.
